Timberjack's Walking Machine

Timberjack, a John Deere company, is the world’s leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of forest machines. Their working Walking Machine concept is quite an eyeful with its insect-like design which is easy on the environment and doesn't damage the ground surface or tree roots like traditional tractor treads. From the Timberjack Walking Technology brochure (PDF): "This concept machine is an important new advance toward more specialized and environmentally sound harvesting. The technology is especially promising for demanding conditions like steep slopes or soft ground where conventional methods are difficult to use, with less chance of soil erosion and ground disturbance. Some of the technology developed for the Walking Machine has found commercial application enhancing the performance of current Timberjack cut-to-length machines."
